New Look for The NOLA Desktop
Today marked the unveiling of the second graphic motif on The NOLA Desktop. This was sparked by insightful, if risque comments by one Karen Mateer of Kinsman Public Library. Thanks for you input, Karen. In fact, the look will probably change monthly now to relieve general boredom from the same graphics.

State Library Visit
Mike Lucas - State Librarian and Roger Verny - Deputy State Librarian for Planning, Evaluation and Research visited NOLA headquarters today. Both sat in on NOLA's board meeting. They were given the grand tour as Sue McCleaf Nespeca explained some of NOLA's future directions.

Calling all publishers, artists, writers and collection development specialists
We are currently looking for people among the membership who are interested in contributing to The NOLA Desktop. No experience in web development is required as we will teach. In fact, if you don't want to do HTML at all, that is still OK. We are looking for folks to submit articles, collect and develop URL collections and host specific areas of interest for the membership. If you are interested, please fill out the form.

Technology/Internet Interest Group Meeting
This interest group met on Monday to chat about The NOLA Desktop and web page development. It was a good time and a lot of information concerning current issues with web development was presented. Thanks to each of you who came, and we look forward to seeing you next time.

Webmaster invited to move to Singapore
As some of you who follow the OPLINLIST know, I have recently contributed about $.08 worth of my opinions about problems with Internet access. Not much to my surprise, my contributions were roundly met with staunch opinions including a (i hope) tongue in cheek invitation to relocate to a place such as Singapore, which has a dreadful free speech legacy and policy.

Well, because I just can't seem to have enough of this kind of fun, I will be starting and hosting a forum within NOLA on the CDA, blocking/filtering software and general freedom issues in cyberspace. The name of the Forum is nola.int.freespeech. I invite you to join me on this channel and share your views. There will be much tolerance for diverse opinions, so you might want to wear that asbestos overcoat. ;-)

Got a neat idea for fostering communication among members, let us know!
