Catalogers Get a Free Tool From The Library Corporation

The Cataloger's Reference Shelf is an unbundled component of TLC's ITS for Windows help system. According to the company's webpage "The CRS is based on 21 MARC manuals and other reference works published by The Library of Congress and frequently accessed by technical services staff."

 

Morley Website About to Come Out of Beta

The reference folks at Morley Library in Painesville have been toiling long and hard to develop the library website. They have come up with an interesting "look and feel" and the site promises to deliver much more. Congratulations to the three Morley Webmasters (or The Morley Fools, as they preferred to be called); Sara Payne, Charley Voelker and Carl Engel.

Digital Object Identifier

DOI is an initiative to facilitate electronic commerce for publications. It seeks to solve problems related to copyright and access by the creation of a new numbering system and a master database with links to publishers. It looks like it could predominantly affect journals and like, but ultimately could lead to the downloading of bestsellers to your hard drive. Now, if somebody would only make a laptop that you can read in bed.

 

Library Channel Demo Reminder

Just a note to remind you about the demonstration of The Library Channel at Warren Trumbull County Public Library this Thursday. It is at 1:00 and there is no charge. We really would appreciate your feedback on this product and hope to see you there.

 

Continuing Education Online Information

The CE section of the Intranet is currently in the process of updating. We are adding classes and working out details on current offerings. Check back frequently as we update the pages. Two new classes added to the list are Windows NT Webserver and a Photoshop Master class. The dates are forthcoming.

If you need to track down a publisher's website, PUBNET is a good place to start. Sponsored by the American Association of Publishers, it is fairly complete and up to date.
