Registrar Offers Free Personal Domains
IDirections, Inc. plans to introduce a service that will have an amazing impact on
Internet Domain Naming. IDirections has created a service where users can create and
register their own domain name (for free) IDirections is targeting consumers who want to
build a personal web presence combining -- email, homepages, and other services under
their own domain. These services are hosted (for free) on iDirection's servers. In
exchange for the free domain and hosting, IDirections users must agree to allow the
company to place advertising and ecommerce links on the bottom of their pages. Will
libraries make use of this service, it's doubtful - but your patrons and/or students might
be very interested.

What Just "Floated" By?
|
In order to help celebrate Morley Library's 100
years of service to the community, countless volunteers recreated the Library's Centennial
logo as a float which appeared in four of the area's premier parades. Along with the
float, marchers in period attire represented each decade of the Library's history. The
award-winning float and marchers debuted at the Memorial Day parade in Painesville, and
later would their way down parade routes for the Mardi Gras Parade in Painesville (tied
for second place), the Lake County Fair Parade in Painesville (first place), and the
Concord Days Parade in Concord (Grand Marshall's Prize). After appearing on October 17 at
the Library's Rededication Ceremony, the float will be retired. |

Every problem is an opportunity
"When one door closes, another door opens; but we often look so long and so
regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us."
Alexander Graham Bell
In today's world, to say "impossible" always puts you on the losing side. Every
problem is an inspiring opportunity when pursued with a vigorous belief in the possible. A
person of ideas is a shaper of "what might be" and not shackled by "what
is". An idea is a dream put into action. Forceful, determined action.
Last week, NOLA members were exposed to one of the most visionary leaders in the library
community...Sarah Long, President of the American Library Association at the Fall
Membership Meeting. Sarah's presentation focused on using your ideas to build partnerships
in our local service communities. She believes that the survival for
America's libraries depends upon relationship building and development of partnerships.
Sound familiar? We've heard this before in many management and marketing programs that we
have attended over the years. Well, now is the time to do something in your local
community! Sarah told the NOLA crowd to "become a team player in your community...sit
at the table where the decisions are made." Her advice is good...but where and how do
we get started?
"Marketing
Survival Skills for Libraries", a management workshop presented by Patrick
Donadio, one of the leading experts in marketing for libraries and other non-profits, will
be held on Thursday, October 28th at The Grand Pavilion (adjacent to the Avalon Inn and
Resort in Warren). Patrick will help you to find your most promotable edge, turn it into a
powerful marketing message, and teach you how to deliver it to your community...through
relationship building. He will review key networking strategies for you to use in your
community to ensure that you put your "best foot forward". This is a don't
miss opportunity for library directors and supervisors to be exposed to marketing tactics
that they can use immediately!
"The great secret of success in life is for a man to be ready when his
opportunity comes."
Benjamin Disraeli
