Ohio Humanities Council Grants

Periodically I would like to share information about fundraising and funding sources with you. Few of us have the needed dollars to purchases all of the resources that we would like for our libraries.

The Ohio Humanities Council recently announced new grants, up to $5,000, which are available specifically for libraries in Ohio. For additional information, check here for details.

Vendor Discount Catalog

The NOLA Vendor Discount Catalog will be mailed to members this week. There are several new vendors listed and some of the current vendors have increased their discount for NOLA libraries. We have added a section which includes vendors who offer good prices but not special discounts to our members. The revised Catalog will also be on the Desktop but will be password protected. When you receive your Catalog, I will include the password. Whenever possible, we will add new vendors to The Desktop Vendor Discount Catalog and will notify you via The Desktop News.

The popular e-zine put's its spin on 97's top books. With all the great reading this past year, somehow they pick 10.

Martin Luther King Interactive

Visit a site dedicated to The Dream on the day celebrating his legacy. ABCNews also has a piece, complete with slideshow.

W3Cs Technology on Filtering Debated

Shortly before Christmas, the W3C endorsed the PICS technology rules. Read a NYTimes article on the ramifications (requires registration). Visit the W3C PICS page to learn more about the architecture. This is an interesting area, as the need to catalog the net gets caught up in the censorship issues.
