LSTA Information on SLO Web Site and NOLA Workshop

NOLA will host the State Library's LSTA Grant Writing Workshop on Tuesday, February 24, from 10:30 am - 2:00 pm at the NOLA Conference & Training Center.

Melissa Lodge and Kip Ryan will be the workshop speakers. Check the State Library's web site   for additional information about LSTA funds. Libraries MUST notify the State Library of Ohio by February 15, 1998 if they intend to apply for an LSTA grant. Then it is mandatory that you attend an LSTA Grant Writing Workshop before you are eligible to apply for such a grant. Registration information is at the end of the LSTA grant information on the SLO web site.

E-Rate Information on SLC Web Site

The Schools and Libraries Corporation (SLC), an independent not-for-profit corporation, was established to administer the Universal Service Program for Schools and Libraries. As you know, the Federal Communications Commission issued a Universal Service Order implementing the universal service provisions of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. The order seeks to ensure that all eligible schools and libraries have affordable access to modern telecommunications and information services. The FCC established a $2.25 billion program to provide eligible schools and libraries with discounts for telecommunications services, internal connections and internet access. Popularly known as the E-rate, the discounts range from 20 to 90 percent, depending on the school's or library's economic need and locations.

SLC launced a web site Friday to inaugurate the official application process for Universal Service Fund discounts. The opening of the Web site marks the start of a special 75-day window during which all properly completed applications will be treated as if they had arrived on the same day. The window closes April 14, 1998. Click here for additional information.
