Library and Personnel Policies

Because we frequently receive requests for examples of various policies, we are updating our files. Please send the NOLA office your latest library and personnel policies. If your library is developing new policies, feel free to contact NOLA so you can peruse these files.

Great Web Site for Librarians

Did you ever check out a web site intending to simply take a peek. And an hour later you have only looked at a small percentage of the resources. This is the case with the State of Wisconsin's Department of Public Instruction (State Library) web site. It is a gold mine for librarians. The Library Resource List contains six sections: Reference Resources, New Sites & Searching, Government Resources, Library Sites, Library Technology, and Professional Services. Take a peek at http://www.dpi.state.wi.us/dpi/dlcl/pld/lib_res.html - it is one of my favorites.

Funding Resources: The Grantsmanship Center Magazine

The Grantsmanship Center Magazine, with a circulation of over 200,000, publishes articles on nonprofit administration, fundraising, and grant-related issues. The Winter 1998 issue contains articles on The New Face of Philanthropy and Consulting Fees for Grant Proposal Writing. You can now access the Magazine online at http://www.tgci.com/publications/pub.htm

Kent State Institute

Kent State University is again offering a five-day Institute with co-directors Dr. Greg Byerly and Dr. Carolyn Brodie. The topic is New Partners and New Technologies: Networking Ohio's Youth Services Librarians, School Library Media Specialists, Museums and Educationally-Centered Agencies. There is no cost to participate and housing for four night, meals, speakers, and material costs are covered by grant monies. The Institute will be held in Columbus this year at the Westin Hotel. Thirty-five partnerships of a youth services librarian from a public library and a school library media specialist will be selected to participate. Each partnership will form a cooperative plan for future activities. Individuals wishing to participate must complete a written statement of application. If you would like an application, contact me at [email protected]
