McKinley Appoints New Director
NOLA has just learned that Patrick Finan, currently the
Library Director of the Portage County
District Library, has been named the new Director of the McKinley Memorial Library in Niles, Ohio. He will
begin his new duties on March 28, 1998.

Legislative Day
Don't forget to complete the Public Library/Schools Survey on The Desktop by February
25th. This information will be shared with your legislators on Legislative Day - March
18th. Register for the Legislative
Breakfast by March 4, 1998.
Regional Library Systems Study
Himmel & Wilson, Library Consultants will
conduct a study of Regional Library
Systems this Spring and submit a final report to the State Library on June 30, 1998.
Ethel Himmel or Bill Wilson will facilitate two open forums for directors, librarians and
trustees in the NOLA service area on MARCH 19th to gather information concerning systems.
The first will be at Newton Falls Public Library (9:30 - 11:30 a.m.) and the second at
Burton Public Library (2:00 - 4:00 p.m.). Please try to attend and encourage others to
also participate in this study.
Reference Backup Service
The State Library of Ohio is planning for a Reference
Backup Service for all libraries in the state beginning July 1, 1998. They will select 4 -
5 libraries to provide this service.
Statewide Resource Sharing
Plan to attend the Statewide Resource Sharing Summit on March 6th in Columbus. For

Mini-Grants
The State Library received 155 LSTA mini grants by February 11th from 92 schools, 42
publics, 7 academics, 13 specials (Regional Library Systems and institutions) and 1 not
eligible. Applicants will be notified in mid April.
