Teleconference March 4 on E-Rate
We have just found out that there is a satellite
teleconference on e-rate implementation scheduled for March 4. The teleconference is
offered free to libraries and schools in the United States. To be disucssed are
implementation issues for the Unversal Services program. The Teleconference will include
an up-to-the-minute program update (including implications of the FCC's Fourth
Reconsideration Order) and a briefing of Forms 471 and 486.
Since many NOLA libraries have questions on this subject, we will be sponsoring this
teleconference for NOLA librarians to view. Following is the information.
The teleconference will be broadcast for NOLA public and
school librarians on Wednesday March 4 at the Kent
State Trumbull Campus. It will be held in Lecture Hall A from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.
Teleconference March 3 on Family Literacy Live On Internet
A family literacy teleconference from the Ohio
University Telecommunications Center is being held on Tuesday, March 3 from 10 am
until 12 pm. I will be representing public libraries in the state of Ohio and discussing
various programs libraries are doing to promote family literacy. Almost all of the limited
time I will have will center on programs being established to partner pediatricians and
librarians through three programs that are gaining prominence in Ohio: Born to Read, Reach
Out and Read, and the Ohio Reading Alliance. The teleconference is being downlinked to
seven satellite sites across the state of Ohio and will also be live on the internet on
Tuesday.
Another way to view this teleconference is available. The State
Library of Ohio will be broadcasting this teleconference through the internet from
their web page. They have established a "Family Literacy Teleconference" link on
their web page http://www.able-ohiou.org and will
have a pre-recorded clip from the teleconference available for viewing late Wednesday
afternoon.
To view the pre-recorded clip, and the teleconference on Tuesday, you will need to
download RealPlayer. This is free and there is a link on the page, or you can follow the
button below. It will tell you system requirements for the software as well.
Be sure to download RealPlayer, and not RealPlayer Plus, unless you would like to
pay for the software.
NOLA will also have a video of the teleconference in the future for perusual by NOLA
librarians.
