Regional System Survey - Please Respond

Himmel & Wilson, the consultants commissioned by the State Library to study Ohio's Regionals have created a brief on-line survey. This survey will gather additional information relevant to the future of the Regional Library Systems. Anyone interested in providing comments concerning the Regionals are encouraged to complete the survey. The survey takes only a few minutes to complete.

Also a reminder that the Himmel & Wilson will hold a meeting in Columbus on June 10, 1998. The purpose of this meeting is to present preliminary finding on the Regionals to the Ohio Library community. Internet Cataloging Tool

MARCit has been getting a lot of attention recently. This neat tool rides along with you while you are surfing. When you hit a site that you want to add to your catalog, simply click on the floating MARCit icon and a new window pops up. The following fields are added automatically from the site:

001 Control Number
003 Control Number Identifier
005 Date and Time of Last Transaction
007 Physical Description Fixed Field
008 Fixed-Length Data Elements
040 Cataloging Source
245 a Title Proper
245 h General Material Designation
256 a File Characteristics
514 a Data Quality Note
516 a Note: Type
538 a System Detail Note (Mode of Access)
856 u Uniform Resource Locator

You can then add subject info and more. When complete, you hit save and a marc record is generated for you, complete with valid 856 field information that will display as a URL if your catalog is web accessible. Read a FAQ about the product.
