Your opportunity to respond to recommendations by Himmel & Wilson

As you are aware, The State Library of Ohio commissioned Himmel & Wilson, Library Consultants, to conduct a study of Ohio's Regional Library Systems. The preliminary findings of their study and 10 recommendations are available at the following web site

http://www.execpc.com/himmel/regionalsshort.html

Scroll down the page until you reach PRELIMINARY FINDINGS. Near the end of the page, Himmel & Wilson present DRAFT RECOMMENDATIONS. You have the opportunity to respond to each of these 10 recommendations - simply enter your opinion and then click on DONE when finished.

There is still time to complete the Regional Library System survey if you have not already done so. Simply click on http://www.execpc.com/himmel/regionals.html.

Himmel and Wilson will present the results of their study to the State Library of Ohio Board on July 14, 1998 in Columbus. You are always welcome to attend the SLO Board meetings and can check out minutes of past meetings at http://winslo.ohio.gov/board.html

Reminder about the Daily Delivery

Effective July 1, 1998, NOLA will contract with U.S. Cargo for Daily Delivery Service. To decrease the possibility of lost items, the final day for sending materials via Pony Express is Friday, June 26th. Although Pony Express will come to your library on June 29 and 30th, do NOT send anything on those days.

We are happy to announce that the following organizations will also sign a contract with U.S. Cargo: OhioLink, NORWELD, CAMLS, OVAL, and SOLO. MOLO will sign an agreement during the summer.

Don't forget the U.S. Cargo Daily Delivery training session on Monday, June 22nd at 1:30 p.m. in the NOLA Conference & Training Center. Please send at least one person to this meeting. Feel free to also send staff from your branches. U.S. Cargo will provide materials, answer your questions, and ask for your input. NOLA will distribute new delivery labels on this date.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the Daily Delivery Service.

E-Rate Issue Simmering

With the recent cut in the E-Rate program, many are asking what happens next. In a cryptic sentence from a Friday press release, McCain hinted at the Senate's next move concerning legislation, " it's accountability time. Legislation must be enacted immediately to stabilize the schools and libraries program and give the entire telephone industry subsidy system the coherence and permanence the Congress intended."
