Holly Ryan and Melissa Lattanzi Accept New Positions

I am pleased to announce that Holly Ryan has accepted the Youth Services Coordinator position that was mentioned in Issue 104 of The Desktop News. Holly worked at Newton Falls Public Library as a Children's Librarian for several years prior to joining NOLA last summer. She is looking forward to working with the Youth Services Librarians in our member libraries.

I am also happy to announce that Melissa Lattanzi has accepted the Continuing Education Coordinator position formerly held by Holly. We have increased the position to 37.5 hours per week as we anticipate that Melissa will be developing and conducting NOLA technology training workshops for area corporations.

Both positions are effective July 4, 1998.

Check out the Employment Resource Page on The NOLA Desktop for the Clerk-Treasurer position (30 hours a week) and the one year Continuing Education Consultant (1040 hours in 1998-99) position.

Results of the RLS Study to be Presented to SLO Board

Himmel & Wilson, Library Consultants will present the results of the Ohio Regional Library Systems Study to the State Library of Ohio Board on July 14th at 10:00 am at the State Library, 65 S. Front St. (5th floor Board Room), Columbus. I strongly encourage you to attend if possible. I found the Preliminary Report to be very positive. It would not surprise me if the SLO Board did not have a number of questions for Himmel & Wilson and may even have some for members of Regionals who are present.

For the Preliminary Report, click on http://www.execpc.com/himmel/regionalsshort.html and scroll down to Preliminary Findings and then Recommendations.

Hope to see you in Columbus on July 14th.

Funding Resources: Trends in Foundation Giving

The Foundation Center of New York City has compiled information on Trends in Foundation Giving. This information is derived from an analysis of grants in The Foundation Grants Index, 1998. It includes more than 78,000 grants of $10,000 or more. A total of 1,010 funders are represented - with combined giving of $7.3 billion, a gain of 15% over the previous year.

Did you know that foundations located in four states - California, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania - accounted for 48% of the total funding dollars reported in 1996, reflecting the relatively high concentration of large, often nationally recognized grantmakers, located in these states.
