The Ramapo Catskill Library System has a nice grouping of web resources known as the RCLS Web Guides. Built so as to avoid duplication of effort, the project highlights the value of networking the humans as well as the machines.

Book Sales in America

Here's a great site for advertising your next book sale. Of course, judging from the numerous Ohio listings, you already knew about it.

Another Casualty

Citing family reasons, the director of the Schools and Libraries Corporation, Ira Fishman has announced his resignation. The organization is charged with administering the E-Rate program and the director has come under heavy fire for salary issues as well as administration. A long time Gore friend, Republicans accused Fishman of the organization's inefficiency. Fishman had already taken a $49,000 pay cut as part of the re-organization of the agency. Read the Story.

Search Engines Shrugged

Jesse Berst points up many of the major problems with search engines these days. An already counter-intuitive tool is fast becoming a major piece in the web's commercialization, often at the expense of the researcher. Worse, the motives are not usually presented to the searcher.

Morley Library Welcomes Back Bookmobile

After a year long hiatus, the library is again offering bookmobile service with the vehicle making its maiden voyage today. The library had an open house with over 200 people attending on Thursday.

They Aren't Giving it to Libraries

It turns out some consumer groups are interested in your telephone bill. With all the E-Rate scuttle and the telcos crying foul, the FCC is being asked to enforce lower bills. Recently, several of the major phone companies cited the need to tack on charges in order to satisfy Universal Service requirements. Read the Story.
