Web-Based Version of AccessOhio On Deck

The Interlibrary Loan project gets a facelift next month when we roll out a totally web integrated product. Currently, users can search an online catalog and generate requests with a web browser, but transaction maintenance is handled by a secondary Windows software. The project is moving along nicely, though we certainly are smarting from the recent LSTA process and uncertainty over the project's future next year. Participants have been urged to contact the State Library and express their feelings about continued funding and direction.

Web-Book Awards

This site caught our eye due to its criteria information. Sites which offer a good read, reliable information, the site should display the creator's love for the subject matter. Sounds good. Some of the current web-books to earn the award are Alcatraz - The Warden Johnston Years and the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

Digitization for the Masses

UMI is on pace to digitize all of its vast holdings under an initiative dubbed the Digital Vault Initiative. The collection will ultimately encompass 5.5 billion pages! UMI lays claim to the world's largest Microfilm collection and the initiative seeks to digitize the entire group. Libraries who are subscribers to ProQuest Direct will get access to the collection.

Mentor Welcomes New Branch

The Mentor Public Library is celebrating the opening of the new Mentor-on-the-Lake Branch. From an idea that began back in 1963, the new branch offers a unique building and an exciting location. The branch will open after Labor Day.

They Could Have Used Congressional Members

In a unique twist to solving the problem of wiring schools, South Dakota is turning to criminals. The Dept. of Corrections is supplying help to get school wiring projects completed under a program known simply as "Wiring the Schools". Read the story.
