Congratulations to Gretchen Persohn and Kathleen Sauline We want to send our congratulations to two NOLA Board members. Kathleen Sauline, the Director of the Girard Free Library, has accepted a teaching position at the Kent State University Trumbull Campus teaching Accounting Information Systems. Diane Fritz has been named Interim Director. Gretchen Persohn, the Director of the Carnegie Public Library in East Liverpool, will be the new Head of Research Services at State Library of Ohio. Gretchen served as the Secretary of the Board and Kathleen was Chair of the Technnology Advocacy Committee. Both were very active NOLA members and will be missed greatly. We wish Gretchen and Kathleen the very best in their new positions. Donna Wall, NOLA Board President, will soon name persons to these two Representative-at-Large positions on the NOLA Board. Beverly Willis and Gretchen Persohn Participate in Library Leadership 2000 Once again, we want to congratulate Beverly Willis, Librarian at the Rootstown Local School District, and Gretchen Persohn, Director of the Carnegie Public Library in East Liverpool. Both were selected to participate in last week's Library Leadership 2000, a one week leadership program that is co-sponsored by NOLA and held in Holmes County. Mike Lucas, the State Librarian, served as one of six mentors and sent the following message to the 30 participants on Monday, "Last week was emotionally and physically draining. Yet, as a mentor, I brought so much away from the seminar and from everyone that I could not help but hit the ground running today. While I don't know if the rest of you are experiencing this, today I felt a Zen-like calm and clarity that was nothing short of astonishing! Here's hoping I can maintain that level. For the last couple of years, I have been one of those people who has regularly expressed concern about where the Ohio library community would find leadership in the near future. Now, I know. You've also put the pressure on me (and those of my ilk) to stand in the future so that I can see your headlights coming; otherwise, all I will see are your taillights disappearing in the distance." 1998 Continuing Education Survey Now Available! What is "Assertive Communication" anyway??? What's the difference between "assertiveness" and "aggressiveness"? The answer....alot! Oftentimes, it is how we deal with conflict in our lives...whether it's at work or at home. Conflict is inevitable. We feel conflicted over certain choices we make. We feel strongly about the way a decision at work must go, and we are often in conflict with our co-workers. Some of us believe that there are only two options when conflict arises:
Neither way has much to say for it. Well, we have another option..we can check out what's going on inside of us and listen to what others are saying. We can get clear with ourselves and see what we have to learn. How do you do that? Sign up for the
Assertiveness Communication workshop and find out! Come on, be assertive...sign up today! See you next week, Lori D. Putt Items submitted by: |
