Susan Golden, Nationally Recognized Fundraiser, Will Write a Column for The Desktop

I just received word that Susan L. Golden will write a monthly column about fundraising for our Desktop News. She received permission from her editor and her articles will only appear on our Web site. Many of you will remember that Susan developed an excellent workshop, Writing Winning Grants, for NOLA in September. She has a great deal of experience working with Ohio libraries on funding projects. Susan is the author of Secrets of Successful Grantsmanship: A Guerrilla Guide to Raising Money (Jossey-Bass Nonprofit Sector Series, 1997). Watch The Desktop News for her first column.

How people use the web

Medical information searches on the web are increasing. Many consumers (over 18 million last year) are taking their medical questions to the web and not the family doctor. Librarians should expect to see an increase in the number of medically related Internet searches being conducted. As searches increase so will the number of searchers needing assistance to access authoritative information.

Will this have an impact on libraries? Count on it!

CyberStuff from Reflinks

Those autumn leaves of red and gold. . . how do you identify them? That is a common question librarians receive around this time of year. RefLinks has two wonderful sites under www.reflinks.org/500/580/582 which can help you with this identity crisis. They are "What Tree Is It" by OPLIN and the Ohio Historical Society and Michigan State University's Kellogg Experimental Forest.

And, feel free to "leaf" through the rest of the RefLinks Project for information on all kinds of subjects.
