helpful.

Forrester
Estimates Worldwide Internet Commerce Will Reach As High As $3.2 Trillion in 2003
During this holiday season, we have all seen newspaper and TV stories concerning increased
use of Internet commerce. According to recent projections from Forrester Research, Inc., worldwide iCommerce sales
will reach as high as $3.2 trillion in 2003, representing nearly 5% of all global sales.
Forrester Research is an independent research firm located in Cambridge, MA offering
products and services that help clients assess the effect of technology change on
businesses, consumers, and society. This projection was made at a Forrester Forum on
"Preparing for Dynamic Trade in the Internet Economy." Underscoring the
importance of Internet commerce to their business plans, 46% of the 600 senior-level
executives attending the Forum indicated that their companies plan to sell more than $1
million in goods and services on-line in 1999, and 23% expect their on-line sales to
exceed $10 million. Check out the Forrester web site for other articles such as "AOL Aims for Commerce"
and "TV and Entertainment
Research."
Happy Holidays
The NOLA Staff wish you and your family the happiest of holidays and a terrific 1999.

NEW YOUNG ADULT LISTSERV NOW AVAILABLE!!
For quite some time, the State Library of Ohio has been concerned that the Young Adult
Librarians in Ohio do not have a forum to voice their concerns. As a first step in
addressing this problem, the State Library has started a Young Adult listserv called
ohioya.
The purpose of this listserv is to provide a communcations forum for Young Adult
Librarians or other staff who serve Young Adults in Ohio. The list focuses on issues of
import to Young Adult Librarians, related topics and concerns for discussion, as well as
announcements and postings of special events of interest to Young Adult Librarians in
Ohio.
When posting to ohioya you should:
- Always use a subject
- Messages should be appropriate and pertinent to the list's purpose
- Maintain a tone of professional courtesy
- Observe fair use statutes
- Always obtain permission to repost messages from another forum
To subscribe to the ohioya listserv:
1. In the body of the message type: subscribe
2. Mail this request to : [email protected]
Hope to have many more of you on this list. We need to have more input on the list!!!

An early holiday gift to you...check out the new and revised
youth services puppet kits now on the NOLA website! We have digitally photographed all of
our puppet kits and large puppets, and have had some fun in the process...you can now view
what is in each of the kits, so that you'll have a better idea of what you will be
receiving in your kit. To access the Puppet Kits on the website, just choose the type of
kit you are interested in viewing, and click on the various kits to check out our cool

"To bring up a child in the way he should go, travel that way yourself once in
awhile."
Josh Billings
To make these pictures fun and interesting for all of you, we did travel into the mind of
a child, so take note of the sayings that go along with the pictures--in the Food Kit,
"Watch out Martha Stewart!" will give you a little chuckle.
Make sure to let everyone at your library know about this new added feature of the youth
services pages...we hope you enjoy and that this will make it easier to order exactly what
you are looking for!

Oh, Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, which tree do we
pick... No! not that one! It's blue! I don't want a blue tree. And get one thats full, I
don't want another "Charlie Brown" tree! Balsam or fir? What's the difference? I
don't know... Do you think we have to water it? We could get a live one and plant it
later. Well the ground has to thaw Sometime... 'Tis time to haul the family to your local
Christmas tree farm or corner lot for the traditional "Picking of the Tree." But
before you go, visit The National Christmas
Tree Association site (general customs). Here you'll find nifty facts about Christmas
trees including: tree types, selection & care, wholesalers & retailers, traditions
& folklore, the White House Tree presentation, and more. Good little girls and boys
can play in the Kid's Treehouse, an interactive treat for tykes. This year picking the
tree will be the easy part. Next up: decorations...Do we need to buy more tinsel? I'm
thinking, green and red lights only...
