OCLC's Cataloging Internet Resources The second edition of this excellent work includes AACR2 and USMARC discussion. Catalogers will find this an excellent resource particularly with respect to usage of the 856 field. Amistad Spielberg gets their attention, You can steer them to the information. The National Archives has some nice info on the case. Also, The Museum of America and the Sea has a great site complete with a library of over 150 documents IKIOSK has New Version There is a new version of IKIOSK out. It is version 3.0 and has a host of new features. The software is popular with libraries providing Internet access as it allows an administrator to "lock down" certain menu choices within a program. Pony Express Delivery Holiday Days The Pony Express Courier Corporation has informed us that there will not be any deliveries on the following dates: December 24, 25 and 26 and December 31, January 1 and 2. LSTA Mini-grant Guidelines The State Library of Ohio announced the availability of Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) mini-grants. All types of libraries (public, school, academic, special) may apply for funding. Under the mini-grant program, proposals may not exceed a request of $15,000 in federal funds. A local match is also required; the local match must be 25% of the total project amount. Approved proposals will run from mid-May to August 31, 1998. Speakers include Carol Roddy (OPLIN), Theresa Fredericka (INFOhio) and Tom Sanville (OHIOLINK). This is a rare opportunity to have these three directors on the same platform. I strongly encourage you to invite your trustees, superintendents, principals, deans and administrators. New ALA Executive Director Chosen William R. Gordon, director of the Prince Georges County Memorial Library System in Hyattsville, MD, will become the new Executive Director of the American Library Association (ALA) on March 1, 1998. Gordon will attend ALAs Midwinter Meeting in New Orleans next month as Executive Director-designate. Gordon, who has been with the Prince Georges County System since 1977, has also served as director of the Arrowhead Library System, MN, the Pocatello Public Library, ID, and the Southeastern Idaho Public Library Agency. 1998 Letters About Literature Essay Contest The Ohio Center for the Book in the State Library of Ohio is announcing its participation in the 1998 Letters About LIterature essay contest sponsored by The Center for the Book in the library of Congress (lcweb.loc.gov./loc/cfbook) and the Weekly Reader Corporation (www.weeklyreader.com). The contest invites students in grades 4+ to write a letter to an author - living or dead- describing how that author's work somehow changed the student's way of thinking. The official launch of the contest this yuear will occur on January 5, 1998. The contest deadline is March 1, 1998.
