Net Subsidy Fight to Heat Up The Commerce Committee of the US Senate will hold oversight hearings tomorrow on the School/Library wiring subsidy plan. This committee is headed by John McCain (R-Arizona), a strong and vocal opponent of the plan. Supporters on the committe include John D. Rockefeller (D-West Virginia) and Olympia Snow (R-Maine) Newt Gingrich (R-Georgia) weighed in on the issue yesterday in USAToday, declaring he would lead the house effort and that they would kill the program within two weeks. The FCC is scheduled to decide by week's end how much to levy on telecommunications providers for subsidizing the plan. Read an update on the story.
